China on Thursday refuted Secretary of State of the United States Mike Pompeo’s groundless accusations over China’s transparency on COVID-19, saying that no matter how many times he has repeated the words, “Lies are lies.”
At a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that everything should be based on facts as certain U.S. politicians have been blaming China for not sharing COVID-19 information in a timely manner and lacking transparency, which have caused the virus to spread to the rest of the world.
He stressed that the Chinese side has, many times, detailed a timeline of China’s COVID-19 responses, sufficiently showing that the U.S. is well-informed by the Chinese side.
The spokesperson also urged the U.S. not to shift blame to other countries, but instead focus on taking effective measures to contain the outbreak and protect the health and safety of its own citizens.
There have been lots of concerns regarding the U.S. COVID-19 responses widely reported by the U.S. media over the past two months, Zhao noted. The U.S.’s COVID-19 death toll surpassed 80,000 on Monday, according to statistics from the Johns Hopkins University.
