China expresses strong indignation at U.S. bill on Tibet

China Wednesday expressed strong indignation at and firm opposition to the United States on its House of Representatives’ passing of a Tibet-related bill.
The remarks made by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying came after the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to approve the so-called “the Tibetan Policy and Support Act of 2019”.
The act severely violates the basic norms governing international relations, grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs and sends a seriously wrong signal to the separatist forces of “Tibetan Independence,” Hua said, adding that China firmly opposed the move.
Tibetan affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and allow no foreign interference, she said, urging the U.S. to fully recognize the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues and to stop using Tibet-related issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs and do more to advance China-U.S. mutual trust and cooperation.
Tibet related issues are not ethnic and religious issues, nor human rights issues, but major principles related to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, she added.
Hua noted that over the past 60 years, Tibet has made great progress in all rounds of areas.
The people of all ethnic groups in Tibet wholeheartedly support the policies of the Chinese government and the government of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, and are working hard with the people of the whole country to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, she said.
The spokesperson also pointed out that in recent years, the international community has become more and more aware of the real situation in Tibet, as well as supporting China’s Tibet related policies.
