Chinese diplomat: China-U.S. conflict is a fight between justice and hegemony

The conflict and problems between China and the United States are, in essence, a fight of multilateralism against unilateralism, fairness and justice against hegemony and power politics, and a notion that the world is shared by all against the “America First” policy, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said.

In an article published on the People’s Daily on Monday, Le said China is never interested in seeking hegemony, stressing that the country is committed to safeguarding multilateralism, fairness and justice.

The ongoing tension between China and the United States is entirely a result of Washington’s provocations, he said. China is always committed to maintaining overall cooperation between the two sides, he added.

The diplomat slammed some American politicians for maliciously attacking the Communist Party of China and the country’s political system, challenging China’s core interests and interfering in its internal affairs.

They are attempting to totally negate the history of China-U.S. relations, suppress China in an all-round way, obstruct bilateral exchanges in various fields and sabotage the two countries’ cooperation, he said.

China-U.S. relations are currently in the most difficult and complicated situation since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1979, he said.

While China is committed to a path of peaceful development, it will never accept any attempt to harm its sovereignty, security and development interests, he said.

Le urged certain U.S. politicians to adopt a constructive attitude toward relations with China and discard the confrontational mentality and the attempt to “decouple” the two countries, calling for efforts to bring China-U.S. relations to the normal track.

The two countries should enhance political mutual trust based on mutual respect and promote win-win cooperation in various fields, such as epidemic control, trade, law enforcement, new energy, artificial intelligence and online education, he said.
