China’s Guangdong province facing the worst floods
Kathmandu, 23 June 2022 Thursday / China’s Guangdong province is facing the worst floods in decades. Almost half a million people were affected by torrential rain and landslides. In Yingde, the worst flooded city, the water levels rose up to three stories high, trapping many residents in buildings.
More than 227,000 people were evacuated from Guangzhou with no casualties being reported as of Wednesday morning. Thousands of firefighters, police, soldiers and veteran volunteers continue to carry out rescue and disaster relief in the six southern provinces in China.
China has invested heavily in flood control projects like the massive Three Gorges Dam after the devastating flood in 1998 when over 2000 people died and millions lost their homes.
However, unpredictable rainstorms are increasingly affecting Asia in countries such as Bangladesh, China, and India. CGTN
