Third countries’ intervantion on Nepal-China Issues intolerable

- Tanka Prasad Karki

Kathmandu, 18 February 2022 Friday / US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu’s expression is the language of threat used by a  powerful nation against a weak and vulnerable nation. This is unlimited language. On top of that, Nepal has been used in such a way that it does not have the decisive capacity of Nepal. It is clear that the United States is expanding its interests in this area, especially through the MCC. It also shows that they can use any means to fulfill their vested interest.

If US gave money, it would be purely financial support and would only be a generous contribution to Nepal’s socio-economic development there would be no debate over MCC. The conditions attached to the MCC are such as to restrict Nepal’s sovereignty, independence and foreign policy. These terms and objectives are linked to the US Indo-Pacific strategy.

From that point of view, Nepal should look at and understand MCC in depth. Nepal’s foreign policy has clearly stated that it will protect Nepal’s sovereignty and independence and will not allow any kind of unwanted activities against its neighbors. It is clear that even that principle has been violated by the terms of the MCC. Judging from these criteria, the way MCC is being implemented in Nepal seems to have fatal effects.

I think Nepal should think seriously and discuss this issue. The issue of MCC should have been discussed among all parties but it did not happen. But we have time to stop the catastrophic consequences of MCC. So it is need for everyone to be clear about its seriousness.

Meanwhile, the whole country is divided on the issue of MCC. Nepal should not enter into any project or agreement that would divide the nation ideologically. Attempts to legitimize this project by dividing the country within the current situation of Nepal will never be accepted by the Nepali people. In the same way, we have to give up the current tendency of Nepal to get closer and further away from the power nations because nothing can be greater than the sovereignty of the country.

Today, advocating for MCC in government dailies like Gorkhapatra and Khabar Hub an online, the project is a project to transform Nepal’s development. That is not a strategic project. In Nepal, some people have protested by giving political color to the project. However, some former administrators, writers, scholars are writing articles that MCC must be passed.

They are covering up the condition of being fatal for the country within the MCC due to personal interests. You are ignoring the sovereignty of the country. Instead of being loyal to the country and the people, they are working closer to the powers . Another important point is that there is widespread public outcry against the MCC in Nepal. There are daily agitations against it. There are differences of opinion among the political parties involved in the government.

At the same time, under the pretext that the northern neighbor China has crossed the border into Nepal, activities such as chanting slogans against China and setting fire to the photos of Chinese leaders are also taking place in different places. Such activities are being closely watched by the Nepali people. The geopolitics in which Nepal exists is not Nepal before 1950. Today’s Nepal is between developed China and developed India. Everyone has to understand it.

Some people can do something against China right now. There is no participation of Nepali people in what they think can be provoked. Such activities may be at the instigation of the power center and may be carried out by some foreign brokers within it. After the anti-MCC slogans were chanted in the streets, Western media including BBC, which in the past did not pay much attention to the issue of Nepal-China border, are now publishing news that China is crossing Nepal’s border.

If there are any border issues between Nepal and China, then both the parties are in a position to resolve the issues. Unnecessary interest of third country or third party in the problem between our two countries is not acceptable to us. Attempts are being made to create a global Cold War. And efforts are being made to drag Nepal into that Cold War.

The pressure on Nepal to stand on the side of the West and against the West and to be present against China has increased on Nepal. As such pressure increases, it is necessary for the Nepali parties to stand united in the spirit of the foreign policy of Nepal and the consensus of the Nepali parties on this issue.

The United States, which has suffered horrific defeats and lost countless lives in Afghanistan, is still reeling. On the one hand, it is trying to move forward through the Indo-Pacific strategy, while on the other hand, the United States is facing Russia in the Ukraine issue. This shows that the United States is in a state of turmoil and fears that it will lose its dominance over the world. Therefore, it is clear that he is eager to maintain his dominance and influence over the Indo-Pacific region, Ukraine and Nepal. (Based on conversation)
