- Dr.Harish Chandra Shah

Kathmandu, 2021 November 7, Sunday The relation between Nepal and China has been highly cordial, very close and deep rooted amongst the people of both neighboring countries since time immemorial. China has always been greatest and most trusted friend of Nepal. We all Nepali highly value the support and assistance being provided by the Government of China in our development endeavors.

This year China is commemorating 50th anniversary of the restoration of China’s lawful seat in the United Nation. Fifty years ago, in 25th October 1971, the 26th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted, with an overwhelming majority, Resolution 2758, and the decision was made to restore all rights of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations and to recognize the representatives of the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations. It was a victory for the Chinese people and a victory for people of the world. The restoration of New China’s lawful seat in the United Nations was a momentous event for the world and the United Nations. It came as the result of joint efforts of all peace-loving countries that stood up for justice in the world. It marked the return of the Chinese people, or one-fourth of the world’s population, back to the UN stage. The importance was significant and far-reaching for both China and the wider world.

China’s development will bring more new opportunities to all countries and inject more new momentum into the world economy.

Restoration of China’s lawful seat in the United Nation, a major event of epoch-making significance marks a new stage of China’s foreign exchanges. As a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of international order.

China is a founding member of the United Nations established in 1945 and one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Regarding the issue of China’s seat in the United Nations, the Chinese government and the Chinese people have waged a struggle since the founding of New China. This struggle has been supported by more and more countries including Nepal in the world, and has gradually become a common struggle for the righteous nations within the United Nations.

Fifty years ago, the 26th General Assembly of the United Nations passed Resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority. As soon as the same resolution was passed, the membership of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations was restored. Therefore, the overwhelming support for the resolution was a joyous moment for the Chinese government, the Chinese people and the world. Nepal strongly supported the proposal from South Asia

That moment was also the result of the joint efforts of the world’s justice-loving and peace-loving countries. The decision of that day brought the Chinese people, a quarter of the world’s population, back to the UN. It is clear that the developments are of far-reaching significance for China and the world. President Xi Jinping further stated that China must jointly promote the building of a community with a common future for mankind. There is no alternative to working together to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world in the pursuit of lasting peace, global security and shared prosperity. China will remain committed to reform and openness and will always contribute to global development.

When attending the 50th anniversary meeting of the People’s Republic of China to restore the legal seat of the United Nations in Beijing on October 25, President Xi Jinping pointed out: “Promoting development and living and working in peace and contentment are the common aspirations of the people of all countries. Development is for the people, and development is meaningful; it depends on the people. And development is the driving force for development. Countries in the world should insist on putting people at the center and strive to achieve higher quality, more efficient, fairer, more sustainable, and safer development.”

Development is the master key to solving all problems and the key to the happiness of the people. With the change of a century and the epidemic situation of the century intertwined, there is a long way to go to promote common development. As the largest developing country, China’s development itself is a great contribution to world peace and development. China has always placed its own development in the coordinate system of human development and insisted on win-win cooperation and common development. The Chinese people have always united and cooperated with the people of all countries in the world, safeguarding international fairness and justice, and making major contributions to world peace and development.

“Developing together is true development, and sustainable development is good development” “We must adhere to the path of open development, mutual benefit and win-win, and work together to make the pie of the world economy bigger” “Sustainable development is the solution to current global problems “Golden Key “Let the Chinese market become a world market, a shared market, and everyone’s market”…Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Chairman Xi Jinping has considered the responsibility of major powers from a global perspective, and proposed building a community with a shared future for mankind and co-construction. The Belt and Road Initiative and other new ideas and initiatives, advocate the correct concept of justice and profit, and the concept of true affinity, sincerity and benefit, and announced practical cooperation measures on a series of major international occasions to solve global development problems and promote the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Put forward Chinese plans, contribute Chinese wisdom, and inject Chinese power.

For these 50 years, the Chinese people have stood in solidarity and cooperation with people around the world and upheld international equity and justice, contributing significantly to world peace and development.  Chinese people have upheld the authority and sanctity of the United Nations and practiced multilateralism, and China’s cooperation with the United Nations has deepened steadily. China always stay committed to mutual benefit and win-win results, and work together to promote economic and social development for the greater benefit of the people.  China has step up cooperation, and work together to address the various challenges and global issues facing humanity. China has resolutely uphold the authority and standing of the United Nations, and work together to practice true multilateralism.

On November 1, the five-star red flag of the People’s Republic of China was raised at the United Nations for the first time. On November 15, 1971, the Chinese delegation headed by Qiao Guanhua and Huang Hua, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, shouldered the trust of the people of the whole country. It appeared at the UN General Assembly for the first time and was extremely warmly welcomed by representatives of most countries. Qiao Guanhua made a speech at the conference, expressing heartfelt thanks to the many friendly countries that have made unremitting efforts to restore China’s legal rights in the United Nations on behalf of the Chinese government, and comprehensively expounded the Chinese government’s principled position on a series of major issues.

The victory of New China at the 26th UN General Assembly was ultimately a victory in adhering to the principle that there is only one China in the world, namely the People’s Republic of China. After that it has prompted more countries to seek the normalization of relations with China. Respected Chairman Mao Zedong and prime Minster Zhou Enlai judged the current situation, firmly grasped this historical opportunity, and accelerated the opening of a new diplomatic landscape.

“As China opens wider and wider to the outside world, China’s contribution to world development is becoming more and more significant.” Former Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero said that China continues to share development dividends with the world and promotes economic globalization to better benefit all countries. The people, so as to achieve common development and prosperity.

Only by embracing the world can we embrace tomorrow; only by working together can we be stable and far-reaching. China will continue to be guided by the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, unswervingly pursue a mutually beneficial and win-win opening strategy, and continue to deepen economic cooperation with other countries. China’s development will bring more new opportunities to all countries and inject more new momentum into the world economy.
